Mers, Coronavirus and COPD

COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is caused by the same virus behind deadly varieties of cold such as coughs and colds. COPD can cause shortness of breath, chest pain, swelling of the linings of the lungs, fever, and weight loss. COPD is the leading cause of death from illness in the United States. While not all sufferers die from COPD, about one-third do.

The name “crown-wort” came about because of the symptoms seen with sick individuals. The symptoms of COPD include shortness of breath during the day (sometimes lasting all day), coughing with mucus, wheezing, and sore throat. Treatments for those with COPD include medications, surgeries, special apparatus, and breathing aids to help them breathe easier. However, researchers have found that prevention is the best way to treat this disease. In fact, there are several medical studies currently being conducted to find new ways to prevent the virus from causing serious health problems. There are currently no known cures for this condition.

Although experts are not exactly sure how the coronavirus triggers the onset of symptoms, they believe it has something to do with the disease and its relationship to the immune system. The strain that causes COPD is believed to weaken the body’s ability to fight off the virus. This weakens the individual, making them more prone to getting an illness. When the person with COPD comes into contact with a common person with the same virus, the immune system will attack their own body, causing a severe reaction. If the person with COPD comes into contact with someone else who also has the illness, they could also get sick. So far, there is no cure for this virus.
